What is Dream Team?
Dream Team is the World Cup simulation mode on Draft Sim. You build a squad of 11 all-time World Cup legends — players who have lit up the tournament across every era of the competition — and then arrange them in the tactical formation of your choice.
Before the tournament begins you select a captain: the figurehead of your eleven whose presence inspires the squad during key moments. From deep-lying playmakers to goal-poaching strikers, every position shapes how your team plays and how the simulation unfolds.
Your Dream Team then enters a full World Cup bracket, playing through a group stage against three opponents and, if you advance, knockout rounds all the way to the final. Each match produces a narrative with goal events, near-misses, and decisive moments — not just a scoreline.
How the Simulation Works
Each player's contribution to the simulation is weighted by their historical World Cup performance data: goals, assists, key defensive actions, and overall match ratings. The engine calculates a team strength score for each match that reflects the quality of your eleven and how well their roles complement each other in your chosen formation.
Tactical formation matters. Deploying three central midfielders creates a platform for controlling possession, while a 4-4-2 with two target strikers generates more direct goal threats. The engine rewards formations that make positional sense and penalises mismatched lineups.
Match events — goals, saves, red cards — are generated probabilistically during each simulated match. Your captain gets extra influence on the outcome of tight moments. The group stage uses a round-robin points system, and knockout rounds are decided over 90 minutes with extra time and penalties if needed.

Can I choose any formation?
Yes. The simulator supports all major formations used in international football, including 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1, 5-3-2, and more. Each formation affects how the engine distributes attacking and defensive weight across your lineup.
How do match events work?
During each simulated match the engine runs through key moments — shots, set pieces, defensive duels — and resolves them based on the relative strengths of the two teams involved. Goals, misses, and saves are logged and presented as a brief narrative so you can follow the story of the game.
Are players from any historical World Cup?
Yes. The player pool spans the entire history of the FIFA World Cup, from the 1930 tournament to recent editions. You can build a squad mixing players from the 1970s Brazil golden generation with modern superstars if you wish.
Does the captain choice affect the result?
Your captain receives a leadership multiplier that boosts their impact in high-pressure moments — penalty shootouts, knockout round deciders, and late-game situations where one moment decides everything. Picking a player who performed under pressure historically is a real strategic advantage.
What happens if matches are level after 90 minutes in knockouts?
Knockout matches that are level at full time go to extra time. If still level, the result is decided by a simulated penalty shootout, with each player's penalty-taking ability influencing the outcome.
Can my team be eliminated in the group stage?
Absolutely. Even the strongest squads can stumble in the group stage if the randomness works against them. The group stage uses real World Cup points rules: three points for a win, one for a draw, and the top two from each group advance.
